KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA:

A station house officer (SHO) and his gunman were martyred when unidentified armed assailants opened fire on a police party in the New Karpa area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's (K-P) Karak, District Police Officer (DPO) Imran Khan said on Thursday.

According to DPO Khan, the police party from Banda Daud Shah Police Station was on routine patrol near the Karak-Kohat boundary when armed men opened fire.

SHO Daud Khan and his gunman, Farhad, were martyred in the attack, while a passerby was also injured.

Following the incident, DPO Khan reached the scene along with additional police personnel. The area was cordoned off and a search operation was launched to trace and arrest the assailants.

Further investigation into the attack is under way.

The latest incident came amid a series of attacks targeting police personnel in Karak and other districts of K-P.

On September 9, a police constable was martyred and another injured when unidentified armed men opened fire on a police vehicle during a routine patrol in Karak's Shatakai Dam area.

Earlier, on August 31, a police vehicle was targeted with an improvised explosive device (IED) in the Ghol Banda area of Banda Daud Shah, killing its driver and injuring six other personnel.

In another incident on September 28, three traffic police personnel were martyred when unidentified armed assailants attacked their vehicle in the Wazirabad area of Tank district.
