Hospital ordered to improve supervision
After an inspection uncovered deficiencies in staffing, cleanliness, infection control arrangements, diagnostic services and fire safety at the Services Hospital, the Punjab Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department sought an explanation from Medical Superintendent Dr Rana Khurram Aftab.
The department ordered the MS to take immediate corrective measures and submit a compliance report within 24 hours.
The inspection was conducted at 8:30am on October 6 and the visiting team found the administration and operational arrangements. The inspection report mentioned the absence of doctors from assigned duties, along with insufficient manpower in the surgical emergency department, delayed commencement of OPD services and non-operational registration counters.
The team also reported poor cleanliness and hygiene in OPDs, operation theatres and basement corridors. Sterilisation arrangements in the operation theatres were found below standard, creating concerns about infection prevention.
The inspection also found the CT scan service not functional, while duty rosters were described as outdated. Bed linen and mattresses were in poor condition and fire safety arrangements were dysfunctional.
