Yellow Line BRT work to continue round the clock: Sharjeel

KARACHI:

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Wednesday directed authorities to accelerate work on the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project and keep construction activity going round the clock to ensure its timely completion.

Chairing a meeting to review progress on the project, Sharjeel said the Yellow Line was an important component of Karachi's public transport system and should be completed at the earliest to provide commuters with modern travel facilities.

The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Yellow Line Project Director Kamal Dayo, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Behzad Memon and other officials.

Officials briefed the meeting on ongoing construction, key project sections and various construction packages. Sharjeel directed all relevant departments and contractors to work in close coordination and adopt a unified strategy to speed up progress.

He also ordered the authorities to expedite construction of the second section of the Taj Haider Bridge, stressing that work on the structure should be completed without further delay.

The senior minister directed officials to prioritise construction of the project's depots and ensure regular monitoring of every component. He stressed that faster construction should not come at the expense of quality.

Sharjeel said the Sindh government was pursuing several projects aimed at developing a modern and integrated mass transit system in Karachi.

He said the Yellow Line was part of the provincial government's broader transport vision, adding that Karachi's growing population and increasing mobility needs made a modern public transport network essential.
