Missing teenage girl found dead at uncle's house

Police launch investigation and search for the missing relative

RAWALPINDI:

The body of a 15-year-old girl who went missing while on her way to a madrassa was recovered from her maternal uncle's house in the Pirwadhai area on Wednesday.

Police took the body into custody and shifted it to a hospital for a post-mortem examination. The girl's maternal uncle, identified as Mumraiz, was reportedly missing from the house.

The girl, identified as Maimoona, was reported missing on Tuesday after she left home in Dhoke Najjo for the madrassa but did not return. Police registered a case of abduction and launched a search for her.

Police sources said the girl appeared to have been strangled, but said the exact cause of death would be determined by the post-mortem report. Evidence was collected from the scene and an investigation was under way from multiple angles.

CPO Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera took notice of the incident and directed police to immediately arrest those involved. SSP Investigation Saifullah visited the scene and supervised the investigation.

According to a police spokesperson, officers had been searching for the girl along with her family after the abduction case was registered. Police also examined CCTV footage from the area to trace her movements and identify suspects.

The girl's mother alleged that CCTV footage showed her brother-in-law, Mumraiz, blocking the girl's route on the day she went missing. She said his wife and children were away in their village at the time and that he was alone at home.

According to the mother, Mumraiz had initially joined the family in searching for the girl. She said he later disappeared after telling her husband that he would return within five minutes after collecting money from him.

The mother further alleged that when police broke open the lock of Mumraiz's house, the girl's body was found under a charpoy. She claimed the girl had marks on her hands and neck and a piece of cloth had been placed inside her mouth.
