Pedestrian bridges get safety boost

PSCA links key crossings with control room for rapid police response

LAHORE:

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has launched an initiative to instal panic buttons and surveillance cameras to strengthen the security of women and female students on pedestrian bridges across the city.

In the first phase, panic buttons have been installed at pedestrian bridges serving Lahore College for Women University and Kinnaird College.

In the second phase, the buttons and surveillance cameras will be installed at other key pedestrian bridges across the city.

Women and female students facing harassment, threats or any other emergency at the bridges will be able to press the panic buttons to establish direct contact with the Safe City Control Room.

The control room will assess the situation through the surveillance system and, where necessary, alert the relevant police team for immediate assistance.

The cameras will also allow live monitoring of the bridges and help authorities identify suspicious activities and respond to incidents involving women's safety.
