RAWALPINDI:

Police have arrested the husband of Additional Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) Rawalpindi Maliha Sehr, for allegedly subjecting her to prolonged domestic violence, confining her to a room for several hours, seizing her mobile phone and repeatedly assaulting and threatening her.

Suspect Jawad Ali was produced before a court, which sent him to Adiala Jail on 14-day judicial remand. Police said the accused was a property dealer and that further investigation was under way.

According to a First Information Report (FIR No 18/26) registered at the Women Police Station, Rawalpindi, Maliha alleged that her husband had subjected her to domestic violence for several months. She said she had remained silent in the hope of saving her marriage and family, but his alleged behaviour had become increasingly violent and dangerous.

According to a copy of the FIR, Jawad allegedly assaulted her on the evening of October 2, took away her mobile phone and locked her in a room. She alleged that she was prevented from leaving, contacting her family, meeting her children or seeking police assistance.

The FIR states that the alleged assault, threats and confinement continued from the night of October 2 until October 3. The complainant, mother of two, alleged that her husband threatened to kill her and harm their children, while restricting her movement and isolating her from family members and others who could assist her.

Maliha also expressed concern for her life and physical safety and sought police protection, legal action, a medical examination and preservation of evidence of her injuries.
