BAJAUR:

The Parent-Teacher Council (PTC) committee, parents and local residents of Government Higher Secondary School Barkhulozo in Mamund tehsil have demanded that the transfer of Rs1.6 million lying in the school's account to another institution be stopped and the funds instead used for repairing the school and providing basic facilities to students.

According to the PTC committee and residents, the school building remained occupied by nearly 2,000 displaced families for more than eight months, causing damage to the building and affecting its basic facilities.

They said more than 1,200 students were currently enrolled at the school and faced shortages of essential facilities, including functional washrooms, clean drinking water, electricity, a solar power system, proper flooring, a boundary wall and an adequate drainage system.

The committee and residents also expressed reservations over the proposed replacement of the incumbent PTC chairman and demanded that the new chairman be elected transparently in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Education Department.

They urged senior education officials to immediately stop the transfer of the Rs1.6 million and allow the amount to be spent on rehabilitation of the school and meeting students' basic needs to improve the educational environment.
