ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said Pakistan's progress and prosperity are closely linked to the quality of its education system and the dedication of its teachers.
In a message on World Teachers' Day observed on Oct 5 every year, the premier said, "On the occasion of World Teachers' Day, I extend my heartfelt appreciation and profound respect to teachers in Pakistan and around the world who are entrusted with the sacred responsibility of educating and nurturing our youth: the architects of our future."
The prime minister noted that teachers played an indispensable role in nurturing the individuality of young people, polishing their abilities and expanding their knowledge.
"Through fostering intellectual development, shaping minds and guiding generations, teachers also help define the shared social foundations and values of our societies," he said.
"The dedication, knowledge and commitment of teachers are undoubtedly instrumental in shaping the future of nations," he added.
"They are the cornerstone of every successful education system, fostering a spirit of inquiry among students and equipping them with the confidence and skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world."
The premier observed that only an inclusive, future-oriented education system, responsive to the demands of artificial intelligence, climate change, technological advancement and a knowledge-based employment landscape, could ensure a brighter future.
"The emerging challenges of our time require us to equip our students not only with knowledge, but also with critical thinking, creativity, ethical values, adaptability and the capacity for lifelong learning," he said.
"Making our education system merit-based, high-quality and aligned with global standards remains a foremost priority of the government," he added.
