Peter Krause has revealed that he once turned down an opportunity to participate in a reading of Aaron Sorkin’s A Few Good Men while the actor was studying drama at New York University.

The Six Feet Under star discussed the missed opportunity in an interview with Esquire, recalling that he worked as a Broadway bartender in the 1980s while attending NYU. At the time, Sorkin was his bar manager and was developing the play that would later become a major stage and film success.

Sorkin invited Krause to participate in a reading of the play, but the actor declined because of his demanding schedule. Krause was balancing scene-study classes and a Shakespeare production, leaving him with little time for another commitment.

Krause later learned that the play was A Few Good Men, a decision he now remembers with some regret. The play eventually opened on Broadway in 1989, with Krause working as a bartender at the Music Box Theatre.

The legal drama was adapted into the 1992 film starring Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore and Kevin Bacon, becoming one of Sorkin’s best-known works.

Despite missing out on the early project, Krause and Sorkin eventually worked together on Sports Night. Krause played sports broadcaster Casey McCall in the series, which ran from 1998 to 2000.

Krause said he remains good friends with Sorkin and would be interested in working with him again. He also expressed interest in revisiting Sports Night if Sorkin were open to reimagining the series for a modern audience.

Reflecting on his earlier decision, Krause advised young actors to make time for opportunities when they arise.
