Olivia Rodrigo has publicly expressed support for a Cornell University student known as Jane Doe, whose allegations of sexual assault involving seven fraternity members have drawn renewed attention.
Rodrigo addressed the case in an Instagram post on Saturday, criticising institutions she believes failed to protect women.
"Shame on Cornell and on every institution who protects rapists and abusers over women. I stand with Jane Doe. Her bravery reverberates across the country, and the crimes against her will not go unpunished," Rodrigo wrote.
"What she lived through matters, and so does the failure of those who could have intervened but chose not to," she added. "She deserves answers, consequences, and lasting change."
Jane Doe alleges that she was drugged with ketamine and sexually assaulted by seven fraternity members at the Chi Phi house on October 19, 2024.
She reported the alleged assault to Cornell police, but the local district attorney's office did not pursue charges at the time.
The case was recently reopened after New York Governor Kathy Hochul appointed Letitia James as a special prosecutor.
James is expected to review evidence, interview witnesses and determine whether prosecution is appropriate.
"This is now an active criminal investigation," James said.
The former district attorney, Matt Van Houten, said, "We were not provided the full picture by the University." Cornell has backed an independent review of its handling of the allegations.
None of the seven men has been criminally charged, and some have denied the allegations. The case has also prompted support from other public figures and the #IAmJaneDoe social media campaign.
