KU gets new VC for four-year term

KARACHI:
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has appointed Dr Wasim Qazi as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi for a four-year term.
Following the chief minister's approval, Secretary Universities and Boards Abbas Baloch issued a notification confirming his appointment under the relevant law.
Dr Qazi has been serving as vice-chancellor of Karachi Metropolitan University for the past two years. He previously held the same position at private-sector Iqra University.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah personally met all three shortlisted candidates - Dr Wasim Qazi, Dr Moazzam Khan and Dr Shafiqur Rehman - on Friday morning before approving Dr Qazi's appointment.
The search committee, headed by Sindh Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Tariq Rafi, awarded 86 marks to Dr Qazi, 74 to Dr Moazzam Khan and 71 to Dr Shafiqur Rehman.
Former Karachi University Vice-Chancellor Dr Khalid Iraqi completed his first regular four-year term on July 28, 2026. In the interim, NED University Vice-Chancellor Dr Tufail Ahmed was given additional charge of Karachi University. He is currently on a 20-day visit abroad.
