Cop held for killing property dealer in Defence
The district south police, within 48 hours, solved the mystery of killing a property dealer Miraj Hassan Abidi, whose body was found in a car near Sea View in Defence, and arrested a police constable for 'shooting' Abidi dead.
According to the police, constable Israr, is posted to the Foreign Security Cell and resides in the Civil Lines area.
Police said the suspect was inside the victim's car, wearing his police uniform, when he allegedly opened fire on Abidi. He then jumped out of the moving vehicle, which continued for some distance before hitting a footpath and came to a halt.
After fleeing the scene, the suspect reportedly sought a lift from a motorcyclist to reach another location.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had previously worked as the victim's security guard before joining the police force. Police officials said a financial dispute between the two had emerged as a possible motive behind the murder.
The suspect allegedly gave contradictory statements during questioning. Police recovered the pistol used in the crime from his possession.
Investigators traced the suspect with the help of CCTV footage obtained from various locations following the incident.
The arrested constable, who hails from Buner, is being further interrogated as the investigation continues.
