ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court has directed the federal police to take measures to provide protection to a female doctor who alleged that influential individuals were attempting to occupy her house and harassing her.

Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, hearing a petition filed by Dr Nuzhat Shakoor, also issued notices to the SSP and SHO of Humak police station, seeking their responses. The court restrained the alleged occupants from taking possession of the doctor's house and from harassing her.

Dr Shakoor appeared in person and told the court that influential individuals were trying to occupy their six-kanal property in Rawalpindi's Westridge area. She alleged that she had been harassed and had even lost her job because of the pressure exerted by the influential individuals.

She further alleged that groups of people had repeatedly raided her house and harassed her.

Justice Soomro asked the petitioner where her house was located and which police station had jurisdiction over the area.

Dr Shakoor replied that she had been forced to live in a flat in Islamabad while her house was in Rawalpindi and fell within the jurisdiction of Humak police station. She said she had also submitted an application to the Islamabad inspector general of police.

The judge then called the assistant attorney general present in the courtroom to the rostrum and directed him to convey to the SSP and the SHO concerned that the petitioner should be provided security.
