DS jail suspended over inmate's death

LAHORE:

Punjab's Home Department has suspended Kot Lakhpat jail's Deputy Superintendent Executive Kamran Maqbool over alleged negligence, dereliction of duty and violation of rules following the death of an inmate at Central Jail Lahore. According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department on Friday, Maqbool, who was serving as Deputy Superintendent Executive at Central Jail Lahore, was suspended on the basis of findings concerning negligence, misconduct and failure to comply with prescribed procedures.

The development comes after an initial inquiry into the death of an inmate at Kot Lakhpat jail. Six other prison officials, including an assistant superintendent, had already been suspended on the basis of the preliminary investigation report, the spokesperson said.

The Home Department also issued orders for the appointment and transfer of several prison officials following the incident.
