Pregnant mother found dead

Family alleges ex-husband was pursuing victim despite divorce

KARACHI:

A missing woman's trail ended in a patch of bushes near Jinnah Gate on Steel Mills Road, where police found the bullet-riddled body of 27-year-old Kashaf Kamal - a mother of one and six-month pregnant - two days after her family said she was taken away by her former husband.

Kashaf was identified through the CPLC Identification Project after her body was found on Wednesday in the Bin Qasim Town police limits. Her family rushed to the Sohrab Goth morgue, where they identified the woman they had been searching for.

According to the family, Kashaf, the fourth of seven siblings and a resident of Azimpura, Shah Faisal Colony, had contracted a love marriage with Yasir Durrani four years ago. However, Durrani divorced her barely two months later under pressure from his family, despite Kashaf being pregnant at the time

The family alleged that Durrani continued meeting Kashaf after the divorce and would also stay with her. They said he had visited their house two days before her body was found and took Kashaf with him, claiming that she was upset with him and that he wanted to reconcile with her.

They said Durrani usually visited their house on a motorcycle but arrived in a car that day. On Wednesday, he allegedly called the family and said Kashaf had gone somewhere, later claiming that she had gone to meet a friend named Fatima.

According to the family, Durrani returned to their house that night and stayed for about an hour, repeatedly saying that Kashaf had gone missing. Her younger sister subsequently posted a WhatsApp status seeking information about her.

The following day, the family received a call informing them that a woman's body had been found. They went to the Edhi morgue, where they identified the body as Kashaf's.
