ISLAMABAD:

An Additional District and Sessions Court on Wednesday reserved its decision after hearing arguments on a petition seeking registration of an FIR in connection with the PIMS incident.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Raja Asif Mehmood was hearing the petition filed by lawyer Riaz Hanif Rahi.

During his arguments, Rahi said the PIMS incident was known to the entire world and had resulted in the loss of precious lives. He questioned under what law the prime minister had constituted an inquiry committee, arguing that such a committee had no legal status without approval from the federal cabinet.

He further said Rs5 million had been fixed as compensation for the deceased children, while a nurse had been given a Rs10 million reward. He alleged that the police were following government policy instead of the law.

Judge Raja Asif asked whether any similar petition had been filed before another court.

Rahi replied that no petition seeking registration of an FIR had been filed, although five writ petitions had been moved regarding the matter.

The judge asked Rahi to provide the numbers of all five petitions, saying he would pass an order on his application.
