Over 117,000 malaria cases reported in Sindh this year

More than 117,000 people have been diagnosed with malaria across Sindh this year, with Hyderabad Division accounting for the highest number of cases, according to data released by the Health Department.

The figures showed that 117,016 malaria cases were reported across the province between January 1 and September 29, while more than 1.9 million people were screened for the disease during the period. Hyderabad Division recorded the highest number of cases at 46,183, followed by Larkana with 33,785, Shaheed Benazirabad with 13,005, Sukkur with 12,058 and Mirpurkhas with 10,898 cases. Karachi Division, meanwhile, reported 1,087 malaria cases during the same period.

According to the department, no case of cerebral malaria was reported in Sindh this year. Officials said surveillance and screening were continuing across the province to monitor the malaria situation.
