Govt denies plan to finance PIA aircraft

ISLAMABAD:

Finance Minister's Adviser Khurram Schehzad has clarified that the government is neither purchasing aircraft for PIA after its privatisation nor arranging any government guarantee or taxpayer-funded loan for the purpose.

In a statement on X, Schehzad said it was important to clarify the facts regarding PIA and the US Export-Import (EXIM) Bank, as some circulating comments did not accurately reflect the respective roles of privatisation and the export credit agency.

He said the government had neither announced plans to purchase aircraft for PIA nor any government guarantee or loan financed with taxpayers' money for such a purchase.
