Quetta celebrates Pashtun Culture Day with traditional dress, crafts and performances

Pashtun Culture Day was observed in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan on Wednesday with traditional enthusiasm, with cultural events showcasing the community's traditional dress, handicrafts, jewellery and heritage.

Various cultural programmes were organised at different locations across Quetta, where stalls displaying traditional clothing, jewellery, handicrafts and other cultural items attracted visitors.

Women, young people and children dressed in traditional Pashtun attire to express their connection with their cultural heritage, while traditional Attan performances added colour to the celebrations.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, women and young participants said Pashtun Culture Day was more than a cultural occasion, describing it as an important opportunity to highlight the centuries-old history, traditions and cultural heritage of the Pashtun people.

Participants said the Pashtun people had a long history and were known for traditions including hospitality, tolerance and bravery. They said the jirga system and other traditional values had also held an important place in Pashtun society.

Women said the observance of the cultural day also aimed to familiarise younger generations with their language, traditional dress, customs and cultural heritage. They said preserving these traditions would help future generations remain connected to their identity and history.

Young participants said preserving cultural traditions had become particularly important in the modern era. They said the day provided an opportunity for the younger generation to learn about and take pride in its history and cultural heritage.

Similar celebrations were held in Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Chaman, Loralai, Zhob and other parts of Balochistan, where various cultural programmes and events were organised.
