Two held as BMP foils inter-provincial drug smuggling bid

The Border Military Police (BMP) claimed to have foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of drugs from Balochistan into Punjab and arrested two alleged inter-provincial drug smugglers in the Boawata border area.

The operation was carried out on the directives of Dera Ghazi Khan Deputy Commissioner and Senior Commandant BMP Muhammad Usman Khalid, amid stepped-up surveillance at provincial border check posts to curb drug smuggling from Balochistan into Punjab.

According to BMP officials, personnel intercepted a tractor-trolley in the Boawata area and recovered more than 1.5 maunds of hashish and 7kg of ice (crystal methamphetamine) allegedly being transported into Punjab.

The two suspects were arrested and a case was registered against them at Boawata police station. Further investigation is under way.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of BMP Commandant Hamza Anjum. Risaldar Tuman Leghari Sardar Abdullah Khan Leghari, along with Station House Officer Ashfaq Ahmed Leghari, supervised the operation.

BMP officials said the suspects were being interrogated to trace the wider drug-supply network and identify other alleged facilitators involved in the smuggling operation.
