Another suspect arrested in Saba murder case

Police made on Wednesday a key arrest in the murder of 21-year-old married woman Saba Masih and the abduction of her brother, Anosh, in the Ratta Amral police jurisdiction, detaining an alleged accomplice of the main suspect.

Police sources said the arrested suspect, Waheed, allegedly kept Anosh at his house after his abduction. Police used technical and human intelligence to trace the suspect and arrested him after receiving information about his whereabouts.

The main suspect, Adnan Butt, is already in police custody. He was produced before a court, which granted his physical remand, and investigators are questioning him about various aspects of the murder and abduction case.

Ratta Amral police registered the case of Saba's murder and Anosh's abduction on Anosh's complaint. Police officials said the investigation was being conducted from all relevant angles and evidence against the arrested suspects was being compiled in accordance with legal requirements.

They said the suspects would be challaned and presented before the court on the basis of substantial evidence. The investigation team is also examining further information about the incident and the possible role of other alleged facilitators.

Meanwhile, the Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights has taken serious notice of Saba's murder and sought a comprehensive report from the Inspector General of Punjab Police.

Committee chairperson Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri directed the IG Punjab to provide details of the progress made in the investigation. She said the report should contain all facts, the investigation conducted so far, details of the questioning of the arrested suspects and the findings of the investigation officer. The IGP has been directed to submit the report to the Senate Secretariat at the earliest.

The committee also urged police authorities to ensure transparent and prompt justice for the bereaved family and avoid any delay or negligence in the investigation. The notice issued by the Senate committee has been sent to the Punjab IG and the Rawalpindi City Police Officer.
