Police contact varsity over student harassment claims

University forms inquiry panel to examine allegations

Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology (KFUEIT) has launched an inquiry into allegations concerning the alleged harassment of a girl student after claims, messages and screenshots began circulating on social media.

Police contacted the university administration to ascertain the facts following the circulation of the allegations.

The administration told police that it had so far received no formal written or verbal complaint from any student regarding harassment.

The university has constituted an inquiry committee to examine the matter, review the available information and assess relevant records and evidence.

The administration is also taking steps to contact the alleged victim and ascertain the facts so that the actual circumstances can be established.

Police officials said legal action would be taken in accordance with the law if a formal complaint was received from the student or any other citizen.

Rahim Yar Khan DPO Irfan Ali Samoo said anyone facing harassment or any other problem and seeking legal action could contact the local police or call Police Helpline 15 without hesitation. He said the facts would be verified before action was taken in accordance with the law.
