Aslam Khan set to join Bangladesh's Abahani Limited

The club seeks six-month multiple entry visa for Pakistan goalkeeping coach as it strengthens its coaching setup

Pakistan goalkeeping coach Muhammad Aslam Khan is set to take up a coaching role with Bangladesh club Abahani Limited after signing a contract with the Dhaka-based side for the 2026-2027 Bangladesh Football League season.

Aslam will proceed to Bangaldesh after he will get Bangaldesh visa.

Aslam's move to Abahani comes after his involvement with Pakistan's national football setup. He has worked as a goalkeeping coach within Pakistan's senior team structure and brings experience from the country's international football programme to one of Bangladesh's best-known clubs.

Abahani have retained head coach Maruful Haque for a third successive season, while former Bangladesh international Shahid Hossain Swapan has taken on a managerial role as the club looks to rebuild its squad and coaching structure.

The club finished runners-up in the previous two Bangladesh league campaigns and is seeking to mount another challenge for domestic honours in the 2026-2027 season.

Aslam's arrival is particularly significant for Abahani's goalkeeping department. As a specialist coach, he will be responsible for working with the club's goalkeepers and helping prepare them for the demands of domestic competition.

Aslam was recently ignored by Pakistan for its senior team’s ASEAN Cup campaign in Indonesia despite being part of a recent title-winning campaign.

For Aslam, the move represents an opportunity to continue his coaching career outside Pakistan while working in one of South Asia's established football leagues.

Abahani was founded in 1972 by Sheikh Kamal, eldest son of Bangladesh’s founding leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, after reorganising Iqbal Sporting Club. The club became a limited company in 1989. Abahani won its first Dhaka First Division title in 1974 and developed a major rivalry with Mohammedan SC, known as the Dhaka Derby. The club continued to grow and became one of Bangladesh’s most successful football institutions. Abahani remains a prominent club in Bangladeshi football, with a long history of domestic success and strong fan support.
