Committee to resolve Christian cemetery issue

RAWALPINDI:

A high-level committee has been proposed to permanently resolve the serious issues concerning Christian cemeteries in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Boundary walls will also be constructed around Christian cemeteries to protect their land, with the CDA chairman to head the committee.

The unanimous decision was taken at a meeting of the Senate Minority Caucus held the other day.

Sarfraz Francis Vicky, president of the Roman Catholic Christian Cooperative Housing Society, presented a detailed report on the shortage of space for Christian cemeteries in the twin cities, encroachment on existing cemetery land and its protection.

The meeting decided that a high-level committee would be formed to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the cemetery issue.

The committee would include the CDA chairman, secretary of cooperative societies and other relevant officials.
