Dar discusses energy supply chain with Iran's Araghchi

Underscores need for safe passage of ships

ISLAMABAD:

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday underscored the need for uninterrupted energy supplies and the safe passage of ships during a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the two foreign ministers discussed the latest regional developments.

"FM Dar stressed the importance of uninterrupted energy supplies and the safe and expeditious passage of ships, particularly given their implications for developing countries and global supply chains," it said.

According to MoFA, he also underscored that "dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable means" to ensure peace and stability in the region. The ministry further added that two ministers agreed to maintain close cooperation and to meet in New York on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

Separately, Dar also spoke with Malaysian Foreign Minister Dato' Seri Mohamad Hasan on Saturday, discussing Pakistan-Malaysia bilateral relations, the MoFA said in a post on X. "The two ministers discussed ways to expand trade and economic cooperation," the MoFA said.

According to the ministry, they underscored the importance of "sustained high-level engagement" to further strengthen ties between Pakistan and Malaysia.

Both the sides also agreed to meet in New York on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the MoFA said.
