Cop suspended after assault video goes viral

A police constable was suspended after allegedly accompanying his son in plain clothes and assaulting a motorcycle mechanic at his workshop in the Dhamial police station area over a dispute concerning labour charges.

Rawalpindi Operations SSP Malik Tariq Mehboob took notice after a video of the incident went viral. The footage purportedly shows a young man in green clothes attacking the mechanic and beating him inside the workshop. A man in plain clothes, identified as the youth's father and a police employee, is also seen entering the workshop, picking up a motorcycle silencer and attempting to strike the mechanic, while people trying to intervene are stopped.

According to police, departmental action is also being taken against the constable. A case has been registered at Dhamial PS and an investigation is under way.
