'Obsession' star Megan Lawless joins romantic comedy 'Crushed'
Megan Lawless, known for her role in Obsession, has joined the cast of Crushed, an independent romantic comedy marking Stephanie Donnelly’s feature directorial debut.
Lawless will play Joss, a hopeless romantic who repeatedly finds herself developing crushes on people who do not return her feelings. The film follows Joss as she sets out to find what she believes could be the perfect crush and, potentially, the right person for her.
Crushed is currently filming in Chicago. Further details about the film’s release date and additional cast members have not yet been announced.
Lawless recently appeared in Obsession, directed by Curry Barker, where she played Sarah alongside Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston. The horror film was acquired by Focus Features for $15 million after premiering in the Midnight Madness section at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Obsession went on to become a major box-office success and is Focus Features’ highest-grossing film to date, as well as the highest-grossing acquisition ever made out of a film festival.
Beyond Obsession, Lawless has appeared in the film The Hate U Give, starring alongside Amandla Stenberg and Sabrina Carpenter. She also had a role in Hulu’s limited series The Girl From Plainville.
With Crushed, Lawless takes on a leading role in a romantic comedy while Donnelly makes her feature directorial debut. The project is currently in production in Chicago, with more details expected as filming progresses.
