Panettiere died on August 16 at age 36 after she was found unresponsive in Greenville, South Carolina, just days before her 37th birthday. Her representative has now pushed back against reports from unnamed sources about the circumstances surrounding her death.

In a statement provided to PEOPLE on September 16, the representative said the Greenville County Coroner’s Office had confirmed that the investigation remained open while officials awaited toxicology findings. The representative also warned that recent reports based on unnamed sources were unverified and had contributed to conflicting information circulating publicly.

The statement urged people to allow investigators to complete their work before drawing conclusions, adding that the answers surrounding Panettiere’s death would eventually come.

The clarification follows reports about a possible drug related investigation. The Drug Enforcement Administration reportedly searched Panettiere’s Los Angeles home after her death as investigators continued examining potential evidence. However, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office has stated that it has not released an official cause or manner of death.

Several reports have recently circulated claims about a potentially fentanyl laced pill, but Panettiere’s representative has specifically cautioned that such accounts remain unverified. The official findings therefore cannot yet establish whether drugs played a role in her death.

Panettiere was known for roles in Heroes, Nashville and the Scream franchise. Her death has prompted tributes from former co stars and fans, while investigators continue working to establish the circumstances surrounding her passing.
