Sri Lanka name women’s squad for Asian Games

Sri Lanka have named a 15-member squad for the women’s cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games, with captain Chamari Athapaththu set to lead the side following their runners-up finish at the Women’s Asia Cup.
The squad retains several players from Sri Lanka’s recent Asia Cup campaign but also includes a number of changes, with young all-rounder Chamudi Praboda among the notable inclusions.
The 17-year-old impressed during the Asia Cup and has been rewarded with a place in the Asian Games squad, while 19-year-old Rashmika Sewwandi also returns after her most recent T20 international appearance against Pakistan in August.
However, Sri Lanka have left out several players who featured prominently in recent tournaments. Vishmi Gunarathne, who made important contributions during the Women’s T20 World Cup and Asia Cup, is absent, as is Nilakshika Silva, who played match-winning knocks across the two competitions.
Chetana Vimukthi, who was recalled for the Asia Cup, has also missed out.
The squad contains considerable experience, with Imesha Dulani, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Kaveesha Dilhari, Hasini Perera, Sugandika Kumari and Anushka Sanjeewani among the established members.
Sri Lanka will open their Asian Games campaign against Malaysia on September 18.
