Swabi rain, flooding leave girl dead

Six hours of heavy rain and hail triggered flooding in several parts of Swabi district on Tuesday, inundating low-lying areas and leaving an eight-year-old girl dead.

The girl, daughter of Amanullah, drowned after floodwater surged through a rain-fed stream in Babu Kanda, northern Banda area of Thand Koi. Rescue 1122 teams launched an operation to recover her body. Heavy rain early in the morning flooded homes, shops and markets in Marghuz and Thand Koi. Several neighbourhoods, the bus stand and adjoining areas were submerged, while several feet of water on the Zaida-Topi Road disrupted traffic for four hours. Rescue 1122 teams reached the affected areas and shifted residents to safer locations. Floodwater also entered homes and shops in Zaida, Topi, Swabi, Kalabat, Maini and Gadoon.
