CCTV captures suspects harassing women

KARACHI:

Two women were allegedly harassed in separate incidents in the city, with CCTV footage emerging in both cases as police launched efforts to identify or investigate the suspects.

In the first incident, a woman walking with her two young daughters in Federal B Area's Block IX was allegedly harassed by a man. The woman raised an alarm and reportedly struck the man with a shoe, prompting residents to rush to the scene and apprehend him. The suspect was allegedly beaten by people and sustained injuries. A video recorded on a mobile phone later showed the man apparently admitting to the act and apologising.

Initial information suggested that the man seen in the footage was mentally ill. According to his family, the man suffers from a mental health condition and had previously been restrained at home because of his condition. They said he had escaped from the house earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, in the jurisdiction of the Surjani police station, a veiled student heading to a madrasa was allegedly subjected to an indecent act by a biker. According to CCTV footage, the girl was walking through a street at around 8am when the biker approached her, committed the act and fled.
