Shafi Jan alleges bid to abduct CM

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Shafi Jan has alleged that an attempt was made by Punjab Police to abduct Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, claiming that "goons of Maryam Nawaz" forcibly transferred him to another vehicle and abandoned him in a desolate area.

Addressing reporters, Jan alleged that Punjab Police separated Chief Minister Afridi from his security detail and forcibly moved him into another vehicle. "When pressure mounted, the chief minister was left in a desolate area without his security," he said, adding that "the hooliganism of Maryam Nawaz's government police continues on the roads of Punjab."

The information minister said that first there were controversial statements against Pashtuns, and now an attempt has been made to abduct the elected chief minister of K-P. "The attempt to abduct Afridi will be considered an attack on the foundations of the federation," he warned.

Jan termed the alleged attempt to abduct an elected chief minister of a province a blatant violation of the Constitution, democracy and respect for federal units.

He demanded that the Maryam Nawaz government answer for what he called its unconstitutional and undemocratic treatment of an elected chief minister, calling the Punjab government's action a dangerous attempt to create hatred.
