Two injured in encounters

LAHORE:

Two men were injured and arrested during alleged police encounters in the city, while their accomplices escaped.

In the Sunder area, police signalled two motorcyclists to stop at a checkpoint, but they allegedly opened fire on and attempted to flee.

The police chased the men, during which one of them, Khalid Younis, was injured allegedly by firing from his accomplice.

The injured man was arrested and shifted to a hospital for treatment. Police said Khalid was facing cases of robbery and other offences.

In another incident, Raiwind police intercepted three suspected armed robbers near Lakhowal.The police said the suspects were signalled to stop at a checkpoint but they opened fire and attempted to escape.

During retaliatory firing, suspect Irfan was injured allegedly by bullets fired by his accomplices and was arrested.

The police said he had suffered gunshot wounds to his ear and leg and had been shifted to a hospital.
