KARACHI:

Police have registered a case against a serving constable for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a woman and threatening her with death at gunpoint.

The FIR was registered by Korangi Industrial Area on September 9 under Sections 376, 511 and 506-B of the Pakistan Penal Code, five days after the alleged incident. The case has been handed over to the investigation police for further probe.

According to the complainant, Bibi Shafida, she had known the accused, identified as Noor, and his family for the past four to five years. She said Noor's wife ran a beauty parlour at their home and occasionally called her over to help when there were several customers.

The complainant said that on September 2, Noor called her on WhatsApp and told her that his wife needed her assistance. He allegedly arrived at her home on a motorcycle at around 10.30pm and took her to his residence in Gulzar Colony, Sector 8-E.

Shafida alleged that upon entering the house, she found no one there. When she called out for Noor's wife, the constable allegedly bolted the gate, covered her mouth and attempted to forcibly take her into a room.

She said she resisted and ran towards the gate, during which the accused allegedly tried to grab her, tearing her burqa. She managed to escape and began walking home, she added.

According to the FIR, Noor later followed her on his motorcycle, displayed a pistol and allegedly threatened to kill her if she did not accompany him. Fearing for her life, she said, she boarded the motorcycle.

The complainant further alleged that the constable warned her against informing her family, his wife or the police, threatening her with death if she disclosed the incident.

She said she initially remained silent as Noor allegedly continued making WhatsApp calls and threatening her. She eventually approached police and sought legal action against the constable for allegedly attempting to sexually assault her and issuing death threats.
