Alia Bhatt unveils trailer for debut production 'Don’t Be Shy'

Alia Bhatt's production banner, Eternal Sunshine Productions, released the trailer for its upcoming film Don't Be Shy, unveiled at an event in Mumbai.

The coming-of-age romantic comedy introduces four newcomers in lead roles and is set to stream on Prime Video from September 25. The film stars debutants Aarushi Bajaj, Piyush Khati, Bianca Arora and Ansh Duggal, marking the acting debuts of all four alongside first-time director Sreeti Mukerji, who had also written the film.

Reflecting on the shift from being in front of the camera to producing, the actor said producing brings its own reward, since it involves shaping a world and a story rather than just performing in one.

She added that this moment carries particular weight for her: 14 years after her own acting debut, she is now the one introducing four new actors and a first-time director, and admitted to feeling more nervous for them than they appeared to be themselves.

The story follows Shyamili "Shy" Das (Bajaj), an independent young woman convinced she has her whole life mapped out, from internships to an eventual MBA and marriage. Her carefully laid plans unravel once her romantic and personal relationships throw her into unexpected chaos.

The trailer centres on her push and pull between two very different men: Mayank (Khati), the wealthy, flamboyant one she has always pictured herself marrying, and Dhruv (Duggal), her more reserved childhood friend. Tara (Arora), a free-spirited presence, complicates matters further as the story unfolds.

In an earlier statement, Alia said the project appealed to her because it "immediately spoke to us because of its sincerity and coming-of-age lens," crediting the director's energy for shaping the film's spirit. Mukerji, in turn, described the film as a tribute to the movies that once made her feel safe and entertained, calling it a nod to that stage of life when one is on the brink of adulthood while still holding on to youth.

The film will premiere in Hindi with English subtitles on Prime Video on September 25, reaching audiences in India and more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Alia is also set to next appear on screen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War, opposite Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, slated for a January 2027 release.
