Man shot dead in Vehari
A 40-year-old man was shot dead allegedly by unidentified assailants near Joiya Hotel on Hasilpur Road in the jurisdiction of Lodan police station, police said.
The victim was identified as Zafar Iqbal, a resident of Qutabpur in Hasilpur tehsil.
Police said unidentified men travelling in a car allegedly opened fire on Zafar Iqbal, hitting him twice. He died at the scene, while the assailants fled the area.
Police said preliminary investigations suggested that the unidentified suspects had brought the victim in a car and left him by the roadside near Joiya Hotel before fleeing after shooting him.
Following the incident, a team from Lodan police station reached the scene and began an investigation.
Police collected evidence from the crime scene and launched a search for the suspects.
Police officials said the motive behind the killing and the identities of the assailants had not yet been established.
Investigators were examining different aspects of the incident to determine the circumstances leading to the shooting.
Police are also obtaining CCTV footage from cameras installed in nearby areas in an effort to trace the suspected vehicle and identify those travelling in it.
Station House Officer (SHO) Lodan Malik Zaman Liaquat told Express News that a comprehensive investigation into the incident was under way.
He said further facts would emerge once the investigation was completed.
