Public Assembly: Ban on Mall rallies challenged

LAHORE: A writ petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court challenging the ban on rallies on The Mall.

The petitioner, Imamia Student Organisation President Abbas Shah, submitted that every citizen had a constitutional right to protest and the ban on rallies on The Mall violated this right. The Punjab government told the court earlier this year, during the hearing of a petition moved by traders seeking restrictions on rallies on The Mall, that protests were banned.
