Lili Reinhart brings back Drew Barrymore’s iconic ‘Ever After’ look

Reinhart says she treasured a VHS copy of the 1998 film and credits it with inspiring her love of period films

Lili Reinhart has taken a trip back to the 1990s for her latest promotional look, paying tribute to Drew Barrymore and the beloved romance film Ever After: A Cinderella Story.

The Riverdale star shared a series of photographs on Instagram wearing a custom Rodarte gown inspired by Barrymore's portrayal of Danielle de Barbarac in the 1998 film. The romantic design references one of the most recognisable costumes from Andy Tennant's modern Cinderella adaptation, giving Reinhart's current film campaign a distinctly nostalgic twist.

Reinhart's latest look is part of a wider fashion concept created for the promotion of The Love Hypothesis, her upcoming Prime Video romantic comedy with Tom Bateman. The film is based on Ali Hazelwood's bestselling novel and follows Olive Smith, a PhD student who becomes involved in a fake relationship with professor Adam Carlsen. Prime Video has confirmed that the film will stream globally on September 23, 2026.

Rather than relying solely on conventional red carpet styling, Reinhart and her stylist Ib Abdel Nasser have been using famous romance films as inspiration throughout the promotional campaign. Earlier in the campaign, Reinhart recreated Kate Hudson's memorable yellow gown from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, another major romantic comedy fashion moment. It is reported that the Kate Hudson inspired dress was part of a larger plan to honour famous romance film leading ladies during the press tour.

The Ever After tribute takes the concept further into period romance territory. Barrymore played Danielle, a young woman living in Renaissance France who becomes romantically involved with Prince Henry, played by Dougray Scott. The film put a distinctive spin on the Cinderella story, with Danielle portrayed as outspoken, intelligent and determined to control her own future.

Reinhart's Rodarte gown draws from Barrymore's memorable appearance in the film, particularly the soft romantic shape and dramatic styling associated with Danielle. The original costume was designed by Jenny Beavan, whose work on Ever After helped establish the film's distinctive visual identity.

The connection is also personal for Reinhart. In her Instagram post, the actress recalled owning a VHS copy of Ever After while growing up and described the film as an important part of her childhood. She also linked the movie to her affection for period films, giving the fashion tribute a personal reason beyond its promotional value.

The response online has been enthusiastic, with fans praising the decision to reference recognisable romance films during the campaign. Some viewers have described Reinhart's recent looks as a refreshing approach to movie promotion, while others have debated whether the outfits should be worn at official premieres rather than presented through separate photo shoots.
