ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed authorities to take all necessary measures to further strengthen Islamabad Police and make their modern policing system more effective, while appreciating its adoption of technology, green policing and measures aimed at protecting citizens.

The prime minister was speaking at a ceremony marking the handover of 50 electric vehicles (EVs) to Islamabad Police to promote modern, safe and environment-friendly policing. The keys were handed over to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Islamabad Police Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.

Shehbaz said protection of the lives and property of citizens remained the government's top priority, adding that all possible resources were being provided to Islamabad Police to bring policing in the federal capital in line with modern requirements.

He appreciated the performance of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in modernising Islamabad Police and said the force should serve as a role model for other cities by adopting modern technology, equipment and resources to provide citizens with a safe environment.

The prime minister said the provision of electric vehicles was aimed at promoting green and environment-friendly policing, while the use of modern technology would further improve police performance and the services provided to citizens.

During the ceremony, Islamabad Police chief Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi briefed the prime minister on the newly established "Capital Patrol" force, which has been created to enhance security in the federal capital in line with the vision of a safe, smart and green city.

The prime minister was informed that the Capital Patrol would comprise 200 police personnel, with each patrol unit consisting of one male and one female officer. Motorcycle-riding personnel would also form part of the force to ensure rapid response and effective patrolling across different areas. (WITH INPUT FROM APP)
