Donald Trump gets dragged by 'South Park' after the show wins its latest Emmy

The winning episode from season 27 took aim at Trump before earning the animated programme prize

South Park has found the perfect way to celebrate its latest Emmy win, and it involves taking another pointed swipe at Donald Trump. The long running Comedy Central animated series won Outstanding Animated Program at the 78th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards on September 6, earning the honour for its season 27 premiere, "Sermon on the 'Mount".

Soon after the victory, the official South Park social media account shared a graphic featuring the show's animated version of Trump holding an Emmy while standing with his trousers down. Written above the cartoon president were the words, "You finally got your Emmy." The post itself congratulated creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and the wider South Park team on the award, but the image made the real punchline unmistakable.

The joke draws from Trump's long history with the Television Academy. The Apprentice, which he hosted and executive produced, was nominated for Outstanding Reality Competition Program in both 2004 and 2005. The programme lost to The Amazing Race on both occasions. Television Academy records confirm Trump's involvement as an executive producer on the nominated series.

The Emmy win is particularly fitting because "Sermon on the 'Mount" was one of the episodes that placed Trump at the centre of South Park's return to topical political satire. The episode premiered on July 23, 2025, as the opening instalment of season 27 after the series had been away from traditional episodes for an extended period. Its story targeted Trump's presidency alongside other political and cultural subjects.

The episode also became part of a wider season storyline involving Trump and Satan, giving the show's creators plenty of material for the exaggerated and deliberately provocative humour that has long defined South Park. The programme's official episode listing identifies "Sermon on the 'Mount" as the first episode of season 27, while the Television Academy lists it as the 2026 winner for Outstanding Animated Program.

For South Park, the victory also marked a significant return to the Emmy winners' circle. The Television Academy currently lists the series with five wins for Outstanding Animated Program, with previous victories coming in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2013. The 2026 prize therefore ended a lengthy gap since the show's last win in the category.

Parker and Stone were both recognised as executive producers on the winning programme, alongside Anne Garefino and the rest of the production team. Parker was also nominated for Outstanding Character Voice Over Performance for his work as Satan, although that category went to another performer.

The timing gives the Emmy joke another layer because South Park is preparing to return with season 29. Comedy Central and Paramount+ have confirmed that the new season will premiere on September 16, 2026, at 10pm ET/PT on Comedy Central, with episodes also available through Paramount+.
