Prince George follows Prince William and Prince Harry’s footsteps into Eton college as parents drop him off

Prince George received a warm welcome from Eton headmaster Simon Henderson on his first day

Prince George has officially begun a major new chapter in his education, arriving at Eton College on Tuesday, September 8, accompanied by his parents, Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales.

The 13 year old future king was photographed walking across the historic school grounds with William and Catherine before being welcomed by Eton headmaster Simon Henderson and provost Sir Nicholas Coleridge. The family arrived in wet weather, with Catherine carrying an umbrella as they made their way through the college courtyard.

George arrived wearing a dark blazer, light blue shirt, navy tie, chinos and brown suede shoes. His outfit bore a striking resemblance to his father’s look, with William also wearing a dark jacket, blue shirt and tie. Catherine opted for a dark green dress and black pumps for the occasion.

After entering the school grounds through the historic area beneath Lupton’s Tower, George was greeted by Henderson and Coleridge. The headmaster offered the young prince a brief message of encouragement, saying, "Welcome, good luck, enjoy it."

George later changed into Eton’s distinctive traditional uniform, which includes a black tailcoat, waistcoat, pinstriped trousers and white shirt. The uniform is one of the most recognisable features of life at the Berkshire school and immediately marked the young royal as an Eton pupil.

The school has a particularly personal connection for the Prince of Wales. William attended Eton from 1995 to 2000, while his younger brother Prince Harry began there in 1998. George therefore becomes the latest member of the family to attend the historic institution, which was founded by King Henry VI in 1440.

Eton is located close to Windsor, where the Wales family live, making it a practical choice as George moves into his secondary education. He previously attended Lambrook School in Berkshire alongside his younger siblings, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. George is expected to board at Eton, following the school’s traditional boarding structure.

The milestone also carries particular significance because George is second in line to the British throne behind his father. His arrival attracted considerable attention, although William and Catherine are understood to want their eldest son to experience school life with as much privacy as possible.

For now, however, the focus was firmly on George as a new pupil rather than a future monarch. His parents walked beside him on his first morning, before he entered one of Britain’s most famous schools and began the next stage of his education.
