Dr Ayesha Faiz remanded to CTD custody

Ex-police surgeon faces probe over alleged anti-state statements

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Quetta on Monday remanded former police surgeon Dr Ayesha Faiz into the custody of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) for three days in a case registered against her.

Special ATC Judge Muhammad Ali Mubeen granted the physical remand after CTD officials produced Dr Ayesha before the court and sought her custody for further investigation.

Officials said multiple cases had been registered against the former police surgeon with the CTD and the National Commission for Child Rights, while investigations into the allegations were continuing.

Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langue, commenting on her arrest, said the police action was taken over her alleged statements against the state and its institutions.

The minister rejected reports that Dr Ayesha's arrest was linked to her recent criticism of Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti or himself. He said he was not concerned about personal criticism, stressing that the case related solely to allegations against the state and its institutions, which had prompted the CTD to take action.
