Reign of armed robbers continues unabated in city

The reign of armed robbers continues in the metropolis as eight gunmen looted more than Rs230 million from employees of a major retail wholesaler in Korangi in broad daylight and made their easy escape.

The robbery took place near Gujar Barri in Korangi No. 2. The suspects, eight in number, were travelling in a Suzuki Alto and on two motorcycles. The employees were carrying the cash to deposit it at a bank when they were intercepted by the robbers.

According to Korangi SHO Malik Ashfaq, the incident occurred at around 11:30am on Monday. The wholesaler's employees had just left their shop with the cash when the suspects, who had apparently been waiting for them a short distance away, intercepted their vehicle.

Four suspects were travelling in the Suzuki Alto, while another four were riding two motorcycles. The armed men forced the employees to stop at gunpoint, snatched the cash and escaped.

The employees, including a driver and a security guard, were on their way to deposit the money at a private bank near Vita Chowrangi. The stolen cash had been packed in cardboard boxes used for cooking oil.

Soon after receiving information about the robbery, police reached the scene and called the Crime Scene Unit to collect evidence. Police also recorded the initial statements of the victims. Police are attempting to obtain CCTV footage from the area to identify and track down the suspects.
