Lawyers dig in over AC dispute

ABBOTTABAD:

The District Bar Association Abbottabad has rejected a proposal to hold an inquiry into the controversy involving the assistant commissioner (AC), deciding to continue its strike until his transfer and initiate legal proceedings over the alleged confrontation at the district courts.

The decision was taken at a General Body meeting of the bar here on Monday. District Bar Association Secretary Asad Jadoon confirmed to the media that the General Body had unanimously decided to continue the strike until the assistant commissioner was transferred.

Earlier, detailed deliberations were held at a meeting attended by the commissioner Hazara Division, deputy commissioner Abbottabad, district and sessions judge, senior civil judge and representatives of the Bar Committee, focusing on the bar's single-point demand for the transfer of the AC.

During the discussions, a proposal was presented for a comprehensive and impartial inquiry into the AC's conduct, with representation from the bar, judiciary, district administration and police department.
