IHC orders prisoner's release

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the immediate release of convicted prisoner Syed Jalal Haider after he completed his sentence in Pakistan following his transfer from China under an agreement between the two countries for the transfer of prisoners.

Justice Khadim Hussain Somroo heard the petition. The petitioner's counsel, Hasnain Haider Thaheem, told the court that Haider had been arrested in China after 350 grams of heroin were recovered from him and had subsequently been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Under the prisoner-transfer agreement between Pakistan and China, Haider was transferred to Pakistan to serve his sentence.
