Lili Reinhart has given fans a major early 2000s fashion flashback while promoting The Love Hypothesis, recreating one of Kate Hudson’s most recognisable romantic comedy looks.

Reinhart shared a series of photographs from Brazil wearing a long silk butter yellow dress that immediately recalled Hudson’s Andie Anderson in the 2003 film How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. The colour, silhouette and overall styling made the connection difficult to miss, and Reinhart made the reference even clearer through her choice of music and caption.

The actress paired the Instagram carousel with Carly Simon’s "You’re So Vain", using the 2015 remastered version of the classic song. She also referenced lyrics from the track in her caption before making it clear that the look was intended as a tribute to Hudson’s character.

According to Reinhart’s stylist Ib Abdel Nasser, the dress itself has an interesting connection to the era. Rather than being a newly made recreation, the piece is a Caché dress from the 2000s that was released soon after How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. That detail gives the outfit an especially convincing period feel while allowing Reinhart to reinterpret the famous look for a new generation of rom com fans.

The distinctive yellow shade also carried a story within the movie, as the colour was designed to complement the Isadora diamond featured in the Harry Winston necklace worn by Andie Anderson.

The fashion tribute arrives as Reinhart continues the international promotional campaign for The Love Hypothesis, the upcoming Prime Video adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling novel. Reinhart stars as Olive Smith opposite Tom Bateman, who plays Dr Adam Carlsen. The film follows Olive, a Stanford PhD candidate who enters a fake relationship with the notoriously difficult academic after agreeing to help her best friend.

Reinhart is also an executive producer on the adaptation, giving her a role in the project beyond her performance. In a recent ELLE interview, she discussed the challenge of adapting a novel with an established fan base and explained that audiences are often looking for the emotional experience of the book rather than a scene by scene reproduction.

The film is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on September 23, 2026, placing Reinhart’s fashion campaign firmly within the final stretch before release.

Nasser has also revealed that the yellow dress is only the beginning. He told ELLE that Reinhart will pay tribute to leading ladies from the golden era of romantic comedies and romance films throughout the press tour. The Brazil appearance was chosen as an especially fitting starting point because of the enthusiasm surrounding the film among local fans.

Reinhart and Nasser have already experimented with several other fashion references during the campaign, including archival Roberto Cavalli, Leo Lin and Emanuel Ungaro by Giambattista Valli. The approach gives the promotional run its own visual storyline while connecting Reinhart’s current romantic comedy to the films and stars that helped define the genre.
