LAHORE:

Pakistan wrestler Inam Butt has tested positive for doping following a test conducted during the Asian Beach Games in China in April.

The two-time gold medallist could face a ban if the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) is not satisfied with his explanation regarding the positive test.

Sources close to Inam said the wrestler had taken medication for an eye-related treatment before the Games. According to the sources, the medication was not related to performance enhancement.

Inam has informed WADA about the medicines he used, along with his medical scans and doctor’s prescription. The sources further claimed that WADA had granted him permission to use the medication for a period of one year.

Inam and World Anti-Doping authorities are currently in discussions as the wrestler seeks to clarify the circumstances surrounding the positive doping test.

A final decision on any possible sanction is expected after the ongoing process between Inam and the anti-doping authorities is completed.
