Defence Day marked with tribute to martyrs

LAHORE:

The Defence and Martyrs' Day was observed on Saturday with national fervour and renewed commitment to remembering the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives for the country's security.

Ceremonies were held at memorials and shrines in Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Gujranwala and other cities. Contingents of the Pakistan Army and Rangers presented salutes, while military and civil officials laid wreaths and prayed for the martyrs, national security, stability, progress and prosperity.

In Lahore, a solemn ceremony was held at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal. A contingent of Pakistan Rangers Punjab presented a salute, while the corps commander laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha.

Another ceremony was held at the grave of Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, at Miani Sahib Cemetery. Major General Faisal Ghafar Rana attended the ceremony. Paying tribute on the occasion, speakers said the sacrifices of martyrs who gave their lives for Pakistan's defence and security would continue to serve as a source of inspiration for the nation.
