Cop killed, brother hurt in road crash

RAWALPINDI:

A Rawalpindi Police employee serving with the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (Pera) force was killed while his brother was injured in a traffic accident in the Kallar Syedan area of Rawalpindi district on Sunday.

According to police, the deceased's brother, Samiur Rehman, stated that his brother, Muhammad Afzal, was serving with the Pera force on behalf of Punjab Police.

He said that the two brothers were on leave and had travelled to the market on a motorcycle to buy some items. While returning home along Bhakwal Road, a Mehran car travelling ahead of them was allegedly being driven negligently.

According to the complainant, a Cultus car was also approaching from the opposite direction at high speed. The driver of the Mehran suddenly applied the brakes negligently and struck the motorcycle from the side.

The motorcycle lost control and fell, after which the speeding vehicle coming from the opposite direction ran over the brothers. Both sustained injuries, while Afzal suffered severe injuries after coming directly under the vehicle and died at the scene.
