Pindi chamber polls set for tomorrow

Competition for 10 associate seats as group secures all 10 corporate seats unopposed

The annual elections of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be held on Tuesday (tomorrow).

All candidates of the Mian Pervez Aslam group have been elected unopposed to the 10 corporate seats, while 19 candidates will contest the 10 associate seats on Sept 8.

Following the election for two reserved seats for women, the 22-member executive body will elect the president, senior vice president and vice president on Sept 11. Muhammad Hamza Surosh of the Mian Pervez Aslam group is likely to be elected chamber president.

The Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where the Mian Pervez Aslam group has been securing unopposed victories for the past 32 years, will see a contest for 10 associate seats this time. At this important forum, former federal finance minister Ehsanul Haq Piracha, former senator Elias Bilour, Mian Pervez Aslam, former Rawalpindi district nazim Raja Tariq Kayani and prominent businessman Mian Habibullah Khan have previously been elected president from the Mian Pervez Aslam group.

The incumbent president, prominent businessman Usman Shaukat, will continue performing his responsibilities until the election of the new president on Sept 11.

The election for the two reserved seats for women will also be held on Sept 11, after which the 22-member executive committee will elect the new president, senior vice president and vice president on the same day. The annual general meeting will be held on Sept 23.

The 10 candidates of the Mian Pervez Aslam group elected unopposed to the chamber's 10 corporate seats are Umar Farooq, Chaudhry Khurram Aftab, Muhammad Aslam, Muhammad Rafiq Khan, Chaudhry Imran Rashid, Najamul Saqib, Sarmad Pervez Qureshi, Wasim Aslam, Qazi Muhammad Ahsan and Muhammad Sajid Butt.

The candidates fielded by the Mian Pervez Aslam group for the 10 associate seats are Tariq Waheed Butt, Imran Sadiq Qureshi, Ikram Rehman Abbasi, Noshiwan Khalil Khan, Muhammad Shahid, Muhammad Hamza Surosh, Shiraz Ashraf Malik, Zahid Iqbal, Rehmatullah and Faizan Rafiq.
